ON-OFF function and txt loaded file

Hello,

I'm Stefano Casson and I'm using COMSOL to model the behavior of a heat storage in the gravel: my intention is to use a function as an input of temperature (I chose the interpolation) so in this way I can load a txt file where there are 8760 values of temperature, one per each hour of the year. The problem is that sometimes the system works, let's say when T > 30°C, (during sunny days), but most of the time the system should be turn off because there is no heat to storage: I couldn't figure out how to express this in COMSOL. For example if I put zero as temperature in the txt loaded file when T < 30°C, for the program "zero" is a value but I want COMSOL to understand to stop the injection of fluid for those hours, and to star it again when T > 30°C. A function ON-OFF could describe better this kind of trend but if I use different types of function I can't load an external file. Can anyone help me please?

Opening a MATLAB generated geometry in COMSOL 4.3

Good morning,

Due to the necessity of loops, I have connected my MATLAB with COMSOL via LiveLink (sing the COMSOL Server). From the matlab specturm, everything works: I included all the COMSOL MLI files, and can run COMSOL commands and scripts and get an answer for studies.

What I want to do is see if there is a way to get COMSOL to open the .m file. Mostly, I want to be able to see the geometry that I've generated with the MATLAB file.

How can I achieve this?

how can modelling of concrete slab with embedded water cooled pipes

HI,
I cann't find modelling of concrete slab roof with water cooled passing through pipes buried in the roof, the temperature of water supply vary according to (Ts=Twet+4 )where T wet is the ambient wet bulb temperature
upper side of the slab is adiabatic the lower side indoor comfort design condition the left and right sides are adiabatic with 36 C, please be in contact if every one can.

Can Dirichlet B.C. affect the eigenvalues?

Hi everyone

I'm dealing with an eigenvalue problem that is supposed to study the effect of the Boundary condition on the eigenvalues.
Apparently, in an Eigenvalue study in COMSOL, any prescribed values of the dependent variable (no matter the magnitude) are taken to be zero.
Anyone has any idea if there is any trick to affect the eigenvalues through the Dirichlet Boundary conditions?

Mixture of sweep mesh+Tetrahedral mesh in a 3D model

I have a helical coil embedded in solid cylinder and was trying to figure out best way to mesh it since helix always creates problems.

1)I did a mapped mesh on one end of coil cross section.
2)Swept it along the coil, till the destination face.
3)I meshed the cylinder with tetrahedral mesh.

I am always getting errors. The model is just not meshing. I tried meshing complete model with tets and it did mesh after a looong time, but it gave error while solving.

Would really appreciate if someone could give some guidance.

Imposing Divergence Free Constraint on Magnetic Field in COMSOL

Hi there,
I'm using the AC/DC module to solve for the magnetic field due to a current loop. I'm solving it by imposing an external current density in the 2-D Axisymmetric Formulation. Once the study is complete, I am importing the components of the magnetic field to a text file and using this data for a plasma simulation code.

My plasma simulation code needs del.B=0 to be obeyed as precisely as possible. Is there a way to impose the del.B=0 constraint? (i'm assming that it is already imposed, but I can't see it as an equation under the Ampere's Law tab). Is there a way to reduce the error using a technique other than reducing the mesh size?

tissue ablation model by comsol

Concerning the tumor ablation model, can someone tell how to get the volume of tissue heated within an isothermal surface. In the model an isothermal surface of 50˚C was done after 8minutes, however, I not only want to find the volume of tissue within this isothermal surface but also want to know the value of the volume with changing time, from t=0 to t=8minutes. How can I calculate the volume at each time instant?

Catalyst Pellet model with multiple products. (Error: solver not computed)

Hi,
I am trying to simulate a catalyst pellet (1D model) for Fischer-Tropsch Reaction. I am getting the following error while computing the study:

"The Following feature has encountered a problem:
Solver 8 is not computed.
- Feature: Dependent Variables 1 (sol2/v1)
-Error: Solver 8 is not computed."

The model is about a highly exothermic reaction in a catalyst pellet. I am trying to get the temperature and concentration profiles in the pellet. I am using the coefficient form PDE to define the primitive differential equations for energy and species. There are 48 species ( 2 reactants and 41 products) and when ever I try to use all the 43 species in the coefficient form PDE, COMSOL gives me an error and crashes ! I split the products into groups and tried using the coefficient form PDE for each but the solver does not compute.

Attached is the full FTS pellet model file. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Hi people

I have been encountering this error message:

Failed to evaluate expression.

Failed to evaluate operator.

I have been working around with boundary conditions, initial values suchlike, but I am not sure if I am on the right track because I either receive the error message above or this error message:

Failed to evaluate expression.
- Expression: mod1.p-mod1.dl.p0
Failed to evaluate variable.
- Variable: mod1.dl.p0
- Defined as: (g const*(mod1.dl.H0*mod1.dl.rho))
Failed to evaluate operator.
- Operator: mean

Why are all these error messages?

How to add a sine source for current transformer modeling

Greetings,

I've been trying to model a current transformer but I'm unable to add an AC source to the model to simulate the behavior of alternating current on a wire and its magnetic effect on the transformer itself. I've already tried using the electrical circuit Physics model (which apparently only works on 2-D geometries) as well as the Frequency Domain analysis to apply this condition but so far I haven't had much success. I would really appreciate if anyone could provide any clue about the subject.

until now I was unable to use multiple Comsol Windows simultaneously on Mac OS. Is that feature only available with the Windows version?
